025, by London College of Fashion graduate Grace Victoria Cowley explores the notion “If teddy bears were real we would wear their fur”. Stemming from her dissertation ‘Is Fur Necessary in Modern Fashion? An Argument Against the Fur Industry” this collection provides an alternative world in which a beloved childhood companion becomes the 25th bear to face the unethical and brutal nature of the fur industry. Shapes derived directly from the dismembered teddy bears creates soft structural silhouettes designed to encapsulate the body in joyful comfort, playing on the childish unsophisticated nature of teddys. Assembled in childlike fabrics such as faux furs, plush, tulle and jerseys to create a collection that embodies softness, playfulness and nostalgia with a dark, grotesques twist. Accompanying this collection, a collaboration with Maggie Mikan provides an illustrated journey through the world of 025.
